Red Petroleum, half an ounce.

Dissolve the galbanum in vinegar, mix itwith the pitch, add the other powdered sub-stances, and finally the petroleum. (Wir-TEM.)

Palat. prescribes two ounces of pitch,one ounce of galbanum, two drams of sul-phur, one dram of amber, half a dram eachof chamomile, of cumin, and of Florentineiris, and a sufficient quantity of petroleum.

This plaster is applied as corroborantand resolvent in sciatica and other painfulrheumatic affections.

BECHHOLZ'S BLACK PLASTER.

Emplastrum Bechholzii seu nigrum Becïi-holzii seu sulphuratum seu nigrum sul-phuratum. (Bruns. ; Hann. ; Borus. ;Herbip. ; Niemann; Spielmann;Van Mons)

R. Subcarbonate of Potass, one pound.Muriate of Ammonia, one ounce.

Spirit of Turpentine, eight ounces.

Digest for one month ; then add

Sublimed Sulphur, two ounces.

Digest for another month, and addGum Ammoniac,Galbanum,Bdellium,Sagapenum,Resin, one pound.

The resin being melted and somewhatcooled, add the myrrh and asphaltum pul-verized, then the gum ammoniac, galbanum,and sagapenum dissolved previously in theturpentine, then the linseed oil, and finallythe camphor triturated with a little, oil.(Hann. ; Borus. ; Van Mons)

Sax. prescribes twenty-two parts of re-sin, four each, of myrrh, of asphaltum, ofgum ammoniac, of sagapenum, and of gal-banum, six of turpentine, eight of balsamof sulphur, and eight of spirit of turpen-tine : the operator}' process is the same.

This plaster was formerly applied tohasten the separation of dead from livingparts, as in cases of gangrene and escharrs.It is now properly abandoned.
