This tree is common on high mountains,and on elevated tracts of land. [Monœciamonadelpkia, Linn. ; Conifera:, Juss. Fig.(Eder. Flor. Dan. 1. 193.)

The young shoots [ramuli juniores, Sçc.8çc.~\are only employed in medicine. They havean acidulous and balsamic taste, and possessstimulant properties.

Water, six parts.

Boil, strain the decoction, and evaporateit to a convenient consistence. (Ross. ;Suec.)

Macerate for four days, in a warm place,boil it for a short time, strain with ex-pression, and evaporate to the required con-sistence. (Palat.; Wurceb.)

Digest for twenty-four hours, then boilfor a quarter of an hour, and strain ; letthe residuum be again boiled in four poundsof water, for another quarter of an hour,and strain in the same manner ; mix thedecoctions together, let the mixture re-main undisturbed for a time, then decantand evaporate. It is stimulant. — Dose, from ten to twentygrains.

Spruce Fir, J and a half.

Alcohol, six pounds.

Let them digest for two days in a gentleheat, and strain with expression ; then ma-cerate the residuum in nine pounds of water,for twenty-four hours, and express ; thenmix the spirituous and aqueous infusionstogether, and evaporate to a proper con-sistence. (Lipp.)

Let them digest for several days andfilter ; then boil the residuum with threepounds of water, and strain with expression ;reduce each decoction separately to thethickness of honey, and, having mixedthem together, evaporate to the requiredconsistence. (Lipp.)
