GALBANUM.
Washed Sand, one part and a half.
Distil from a glass retort placed in a
sand-bath ; separate the oil from the white
liquor which passes over with it, and rectify
it. (WlRTEM.)
Hann. ; Pol. ; BoRUs. ; Sax.; andSwediauk direct one part of galbanum tobe distilled with four parts of water. Thisoil is exceedingly stimulant; it was for-merly employed in frictions to the abdomen,in colic and hysteria.

(Sard.)Hisp. prescribes one pound each of gal-banum, of gum hederá, of elemi, and of oilof bay. — Niemann — one pound each ofgalbanum, of soap, and of spirit of turpen-tine, six drams of supertartrate of potass,and a sufficient quantity of alcohol to dis-solve the whole by aid of a gentle heat.

R. Galbanum, two ounces.
Proof Spirit, two pints.
Digest for seven days, and filter.(Dubl. ; Coxe; Hufeland)
Hann. prescribes two ounces of galba-num, and one pound of concentrated alco-hol. — Sax. — one part of galbanum, andfive parts of rectified spirit.— Swediaur —
two ounces of galbanum and two pounds ofalcohol (0.935).— Fuld. ; and Lipp. — onepart of galbanum and ten parts of concen-trated alcohol.
It is stimulant, and is considered anti-spasmodic and carminative. It is pre-scribed as a substitute for assafcetida whenthat cannot be borne.
Dose, from half a dram to one dram,twice or thrice a day, in a proper vehicle.
