ounce of atsafœtida to be digested in eightounces of spirit of ammonia ; and to distilin a water-bath. Hiss. four ounces ofassafœtida to be digested, without heat, insixteen of spirit of ammonia, for eightdays.

This last formula diifers from all theothers, in not requiring distillation ; which,in fact, is perfectly useless ; the preparationis better on that account.

It is stimulant and anti-hysteric-from five to sixty drops or more.

R. Ammoniated Spirit of Assafœtida,

one ounce.Peppermint Water, seven ounces.

Dose, two table spoonfuls. It is pre-scribed in the syncope of hysterical women.

2. Extraction by JEther.

¿ETHERIAL tincture of assafœtida.

Tinctura seu Essentia Assafœtida! œtherea.(Gall.)

R. Assafœtida, one part.

Sulphuric ¿Ether (46 degrees),

four parts.Macerate for two days, without heat, anddecant.

It is stimulant. Dose, from fifteen grainsto half a dram.

3. Extraction by Alcohol.
