ASSAFŒTIDA.

Tinctura Assafœtidœ.

R. Assafœtkla, four ounces.

Rectified Spirit, two pints.

Macerate for fourteen days, andstrain. (Lond.)

R. Assafcetida, four ounces.

Rectified Spirit, two pints.

Water, eight fluid ounces.

Triturate the assafoetida with the

water, and add the spirit. Digest for

fourteen days, and strain. (Dlbl.)

Tinctura Ferulœ Assafoetida.(Edinb.)

R. Assafretida, four ounces.

Alcohol, two pounds and a half.Digest for seven days, and filter.

R. Assafoetida, coarsely powdered,

One part.

Alcohol (22 degrees) , four parts.

Digest for three days, and strain. (Gall.)

Austr. prescribes two ounces of assa-foetida, and onepound of alcohol (0.850).Amst. one part of assafoetida, and eightparts of alcohol (0.884). Ant. one ofassafœtida, and eight of alcohol (30 de-grees). Batav.; andBELG. one of assa-fœtida, and eight of alcohol (20 degrees).Bavar,- one of assafoetida, and six ofalcohol (0.UO0). Sax. one of assafoetida,and five of rectified spirit. Dan. ; Mil.Copen. ; Fenn. ; Hann.; Hass. ; Lipp. ;Pol. ; Cast. Borus. ; Piderit ; and Swe-DIAUR one of assafœtida, and six of al-cohol. Brugnatelli four ouncesof assa-fœtida, and two pounds of alcohol. Hisp.one part of assafoetida, and twelve parts ofalcohol

R Assafœtida, cut in pieces, one part.

Alcohol, eight parts.

Digest, at first, for two days withoutheat ; then in a water-hath for two hours.Set it aside to cool, express, and filter.(Van Mons)

It is stimulant ; and is reputed anthel-mintic. Dose, from half a dram to a dramand a half.

alcaline tincture of assafœtida.

R. Assafœtida, 1 of each,

Subcarbonate of Potass, J two ounces.Proof Spirit, one pound.

Digest for three days, in a gentle heat,and filter. Dose, twenty drops.

FULIGINOUS TINCTURE OF ASSAFCETIDA.

Tinctura seu Solutio Fuliginis feetida.(Genev. ; Suec. ; Herbip. ; Augus-tin ; Cadet de Gassicourt ; Nie-mann)

R. Soot, two ounces.

Assafœtida, one ounce.

Proof Spirit, two pounds.

Digest, and filter. (Augustin ; Nie-mann)

Herbip. ; and Cadet de Gassicourtprescribe one half less of alcohol. Genev. one pound and a half of alcohol.

R. Assafœtida, six drams.

Alcaline solution of Soot, six ounces.Dissolve and strain. (Suec)

This is recommended in hysteria, and inthe flatulencies and convulsions attendingdentition. Dose, from fifteen to thirtydrops.

anti-spasmodic tincture. (Sainte-Marie)

R. Assafœtida, one scruple.

Succinated Spirit of Ammonia,

one ounce.Dissolve perfectly.

Dose, ten, fifteen, or twenty drops, incold water, thrice a day.

Oil of Hartshorn, 1 ,

Amber, }of each, one part.

Set aside for one day, and filter.The dose is the same as for the preceding.

R. Tincture of Assafœtida, two drams.

---------------- Opium, half a dram.

Mix.

Myrrh, I of each,

Saffron, one dram and a half.

Castor, J

Camphor, one dram.

Subcarbonate of Ammonia, two drams.

Oil of Amber, half a dram.

Alcohol, eight ounces.

Digest, and filter.

Dose, from twelve to twenty drops.
