A plant common to the meadows of Eu-rope. (Syngenesia Polyyamia ¿Equalis,Linn. ; Synanthereœ, Cass. ; Fig. Zorn,Je. pi. t. 179)

The root (Radix Tragopogi seu BarôaHirci) is employed. It is long, cylindrical,and whitish. It has a sweet taste.

The Tragopogón porrifolium,Lisx.; (Fig.Œd. Fl. Dan. t. 797) is frequently substi-tuted for it.

It sometimes enters into pectoral decoc-tions.

The fruit used formerly to be employed

as astringent, and the leaves as resolvent.

Neither are used at the present day.

A mushroom (Auricula Judœ seu FungusSaynbuci) growing on decayed trees. (Fig.'Lora, le. pi. t. 500}

It is in the form of an ear and of a green-ish grey colour.

It used formerly to be employed in an-gina, boiled in milk or vinegar.

A common plant of Europe. (Diadel-phia Decandria, Linn. ; Leguminosa:, Juss.;Fig. Zorn, Ic.pl. t. 93)

The flowering herb (Herba cum FlorilusTrifolii pratensis seu purpurei) is em-ployed. It consists of trifoliate leaves, withoval, entire, rough leaflets, frequentlymarked with a white or black spot, and ofred or purple flowers, disposed in rounded,obtuse spikes, surrounded by membraneousbracteae.

It is said to be slightly laxative.
