to obtain two pounds of strained decoction.(Saunders)
It is recommended in diarrhœa and blen-norrhcea. — Dose, two ounces, three or fourtimes a day. By leaving out the cinnamon,this decoction may also be employed in theform of lavement or injection.

Pierqutn prescribes three ounces of tor-mentil, thirty-four pounds of water, threeounces of comfrey, and two ounces ofliquorice.

Boil the roots and infuse the petals ; thenadd to the strained liquor,
Syrup of Pomegranate,
one ounce and a half.
________ Gum, one ounce.
Dilute Sulphuric Acid, twenty drops.

A colouring substance, of which there aretwo kinds met with in commerce :
1. Cake or Stone Litmus.
Dubl. ; Austr. ; Belg. ; Bruns.; Gui-eourt; Murray and Gmelin ; Spiel-mann.
This is in small straight parallelopi-pedons of a blue colour, prepared with se-veral species of lichens reduced to powder
mixed with subcarbonate of potass andchalk, and fermented with human urine.
2. Litmus cloths ; Becetta, Nezetta.
Bruns. ; Wirtem. ; Bergius ; Gui-bourt ; Murray and Gmelin.
These are old rags saturated with thejuice of the tops of the Crotón tinctorium,Linn. ; (Monœcia MonadelpAia, Linn. ;Eujihorbiacetp, Juss.), a plant of the southof Europe {Fig. Lob. Ie. 26), then dried andexposed to the vapour disengaged from amixture of urine and quick lime till theyacquire a violet-blue colour.
