Swediaur prescribes, instead of themixture of alcohol and water, ten poundsof white wine. He also recommends thesecond syrup to be made with the liquorexpressed from the residue, ten pounds ofwater, and twenty pounds of sugar.
R. Juice of Scurvy-grass,

---------- Water Cress,
---------- Horse-radish Root,
---------- Bitter Oranges, twenty ounces.
Fresh Peel of Bitter Orange, one ounce.
Digest without heat in a covered vessel,occasionally agitating, for about twelvehours. Filter, and add to the liquor
White Sugar, twice the quantity.
When dissolved, add further,
Spirit of Scurvy-grass, \ of each,
Cinnamon Water, J one ounce.

Dissolve slowly, and to each pound of thissyrup add one ounce of another syrup pre-pared with spirit of scurvy-grass.

R. Fresh Root of Horse- 1 of each,radish, sliced, > one
Mustard Seeds, bruised, ) ounce.Boiling Water, one pint.
Macerate for two hours in a lightlycovered vessel, and strain. AddCompound Spirit of Horse-radish, one fluid ounce.Mix.
Niemann gives the same formula. —Amer. ; and Coxe also give the same,omitting the spirit.

Triturate together, and express. Add tonine parts of the juice
White Sugar, seven parts.
Make a sj-rup in a close vessel. (Van Mons)
Cullen recommended one dram of horse-radish root, rasped, to be infused in twoounces of hot water, and twice the quantityof sugar to be added to the strained liquor.— Dose, from one to three drams.
