R. Bitter Infusion, 1 of eacli.
Anti-paralytic Infusion, J one pound.Mix. — Dose, four ounces, twice a day.
ANTI-SCORBUTIC DECOCTION.
Decoctum anti-scorbuticum. (Gall. ; Bo-RiES ; Cadet de Gassicourt; Spiel-mann)
R. Root of Horse-radish, two ounces.Water, eighty ounces.
Boil for a quarter of an hour, and addHerb of Brooklime,

Boil a little, strain, and add

from two to four drams.Juniper, half a pinch.
White Horehound, a large pinch.
Boiling Water, three large glassfuls.
Macerate for an hour, and strain whencold.
To be taken at thrice, in the morning,fasting ; adding to each dose, a spoonful ofa mixture of four ounces of syrup of squillwith four ounces of vinous syrup of seneka.

There are two sorts of resins which bearthis name.
1. Elemi orientale; Oriental or EthiopianElemi. — This is of a yellowish colour ap-proaching to green, hard externally, softinternally, of a strong and disagreeableodour resembling that of fennel, and of anaromatic taste.
2. Elemi occidentale ,■ Occidental or Spu-rious Elemi. — This is in round cakes, of apale yellow colour, semi-transparent, some-
times variegated with white and yellowgrains, of a strong and agreeable odour,and of a bitter taste.
The first was attributed to the Gardeniaffummifera, Linn., a tree of Ceylon [_Fig.Thunb. Diss. No. 4, tab. 2), and the secondto the Amyris Elemifera, Linn. {Fig. Plum.Ic. I. 100), a tree of New Spain. Gui-BOURT has ascertained that both are ori-ginally from America, that the resin of theamyris is now no longer met with in com-merce, and, that what is, is derived fromthe Icica Icicariba, Cand.
It is excitant.
