3 Sanguis Draconis in placerais ; in flatmasses or cakes, of the thickness of aninch, and weighing several ounces.
4. Sanguis Draconis in tabulis ; in platessix or eight inches long, three or fourbroad, and more than one inch thick.
This substance is extracted from the fruitof the Calamus Rotang, Linn , a small treeof the East Indies (Hexandria Monogynia,Linn., Palmee, Juss. ; Fig. Rheed. Malab.t. 64), from the trunk of the PterocarpusDraco, Linn., a tree of South America(Diadelphia Decandria, Linn. ; Legumi-nosa, Juss.), from the Pterocarpus santa-linus, Linn., a tree of the East Indies, fromthe Draccena Draco, Linn, a tree of theCanaries (Hexandria Monogynia, Linn. ;Asparagineœ, Juss. ; Pig. Blackw. Herb.358), from the Dalbergia monetaria, a treeof Surinam {Diadelphia Decandria, Linn. ;Leguminosa! Juss.), and from variousCrotons.
It is astringent, hut not very energetic. —Dose, from ten grains to half a dram.

In small irregular, angular, friable grains,of between a straw-yellow colour and thatof a dark pomegranate, transparent, semi-transparent, or opaque, without odour,but of an acrid and warm taste.
It flows from all parts, but particularlyfrom the calices, of the Pencea Sarcocolla,
Linn., a shrub of Persia and Arabia (Te-trandria Monogynia, Linn. ; AcantAaceœ,Juss.; Fig. Enc. Meth. t. 78, f. 2).
It contains, according to Pelletier,gum, a gelatinous matter, and a peculiarsubstance, Sarcocollina.
