In blackish-grey masses, soft, and evenunctuous to the touch, marking paper ; itis inodorous and insipid, easily cut with aknife, and acquires a metallic lustre bybeing rubbed ; its fracture is unctuous andbrilliant.
It is considered slightly astringent anddesiccative, and has been recommendedparticularly by Weinhold, in the treat-ment of herpes ; but it has never obtainedmuch credit, and is now scarcely used at all.

twelve grains.Sulphuretted Hydrosulphate
of Antimony, six grains.
Juice of Liquorice,
a sufficient quantity.Make sixty pills.
These pills are not without efficacy,which they owe to the mercury and anti-mony. — Dose, five, thrice a day.

R. Pulverized Carburet of Iron, six drams.Lard, ten drams.
Mix by trituration. (Niemann)
Van Mons prescribes one ounce and ahalf of carburet and three ounces of lard,
It is applied to herpetic eruptions.
PLASTER OF CARBURET OF IRON. (NIE-MANN)
R. Carburet of Iron, two drams.
Soap Plaster, one ounce.
Incorporate the powder with the softenedplaster.

Triturate together, and add
Decoction of Barley, one pound.
Mix. — To be taken at four doses. It hasbeen employed successfully in a case ofpsoric-syphilitic herpes.
