R. Bruised Herb of Digitalis, one part.
Lard, two parts.
Digest for two days ; then boil over a
slow fire to the consumption of all humidity,
and strain. (Sax.)
Fuld. prescribes sixteen ounces of herband twenty of fresh butter. — Hebbip. — fourounces of herb and one pound of lard.R. Juice of Digitalis, 1 of each,Lard, J an equal part.
Boil to the consumption of the humidity.(Hami.)
Hufeland prescribes one part of juiceand two parts of fat. — Swediaur — fourounces of lard and one pound of juice. Itis employed as an application to chroniculcers.

Two species of this genus of plants arespoken of in pharmacopoeias.
1. Dipsacus Fullonum, Linn. — Teazle,Fuller's Thistle.
Synonimes :— Cardère cultivée, Chardonà foulon, Chardon à bonnetier, Fn. ; Bu-bendistel, Weberkarden, Germ. ; Wol-lerskarden, Dut.
Gall.; Wirtem. ; Spielmann.
This plant is cultivated in many places.(Tetrandria Monogynia, Linn. ; Dipsaceœ,Juss. ; Fig. Blackw. Herb. t. 50.)

The Herb {Hería Cardtii Veneris) con-sists of a stem furnished with oval, lanceo-lated leaves, spiny on their principal under
nervure, and united downwards into a kindof deep basin. The flowers form togetherinto large oval conical heads ; the scales ofthe receptacle are close and reflected atthe summit.
2. Dipsacus Sylvestris,Lrs$. — Wild Teazle.

Gall.
The herb and flowers are employed.
The herb differs from the preceding inthe stem being less strong, and the basinformed by the leaves being less deep.
The palese of the flowers are straight andlong, terminated by a subulate point.
These two plants are esteemed stomachic.
