R. Nitrate of Potass, ten ounces.
Alum, eiffht ounces.
Muriate of Soda, tire ounces.
Gold, in leaves, half an ounce.
Triturate them together till the gold be-comes extinguished. Dissolve the mixturein lime water, and pour deliquesced subcar-bonate of potass into the solution. Washwell the precipitated gold with hot water,and calcine it in a crucible, till it assumes aviolet colour. (Spielmann)
The Crocus Soils, according to some, is adeutoxide of gold ; according to others, itis simply gold in a state of minute division.

R. Divided Gold, any quantity
Hydrochloro-nitric Acid,
a sufficient quantityto dissolve the metal. Dilute the solutionwith twelve parts of water ; then add to itsolution of potass, in such quantity that itmay remain slightly in excess. Wash anddry the precipitate which forms. (Hann.)

The product seems to be a mixture ofperoxide of gold, anrate of potass, and me-tallic gold.

R. Chloruret of Gold one dram.
Distilled Water, two ounces.
Dissolve, and pour gradually into the so-lution.
Proto-hydrochlorate of Tin, dis-solved in four parts of water,
a sufficient quantity ;or, till it ceases to produce a precipitate.Wash and dry this well.
Dose, from half a grain to one grain,progressively, in frictions upon the tongue :and from the twentieth of a grain to onegrain, progressively, taken internally.

R. Crocus Solis, four scruples.
Prepared Hartshorn, one ounce.
Triturate together.
This had formerly the reputation of beingsudorific and cordial ; and was employed invariola and malignant fevers.
Spielmann falls into an egregious error,in refusing to allow any kind of action toaurifie preparations ; and attributing theiractivity only to the substances with whichthey are combined.
RESOLVENT PILLS. (BORIES ; PiERQUJn)
R. Oxide of Gold, precipitated by
Potass, six grains.
Extract of Mezereon, two drams.
Make sixty pills.
These are recommended by Chrestien. —Dose, one at first, increasing gradually, tillseven or eight are taken in a day.

Hydrochloro-nitric Acid, one ounce.Dissolve, and add gradually,Solution of Ammonia,
a sufficient quantity ;or, till it produces no more precipitate.Wash this several times with distilled water,and dry it with a very moderate heat.
It is diaphoretic. — Dose, from three tosix grains.

Nitric Acid, two ounces.
Dissolve and add
Rectified Spirit, thirty-two ounces.Digest for one month.
BALSAM OF GOLD.

Dissolve in a sand-bath.
