Strong alcohol with anexcess of phosphorus is putinto an open bottle in ahot-water bath , and afterthe phosphorus has melted,vigorously shaken till cold,then decanted . 1000 dropsof this solution contain 1grain of phosphorus andcorrespond to the 3 rd de-cimal potency. 10 dropsof this solution with 90drops of strong alcohol givethe 2 nd centesimal , or 4 thdecimal potency.

100 parts by weight ofmilk-sugar with about 15parts by weight of distilledwater , are rubbed with awet pestle to a thickishpaste. With this 1 partby weight of finely cutphosphorus is kneaded withthe pestle rather by pound-ing than rubbing, takingcare that the mass , oftenadhering to the pestle, isreturned into the mortar.In this way the smallpieces of phosphorus arereduced in the thick milk-sugar-paste to particles soinvisibly small , (by threetimes triturating for 6 min-utes , then scraping to-gether for 4 minutes , asmore particularly described

On met un melange d'al-cool concentré et de phos-phore en excès dans unflacon ouvert et placé dansun bain-marie très-cliaud,on agite énergiquementaprès liquéfaction du phos-phore et jusqu'à completrefroidissement , puis ondécante. 1000 gouttes dela solution, contenant 1grain de phosphore, repré-sentent la 3 ième dilutiondécimale. 10 gouttes dela solution pour 90 gouttesd'alcool concentré donnentla 2 ièmP dilution centési-male, resp. 4 ième décimale.

100 parti in peso dizucchero di latte, con circa15 di acqua distillata, me-diante un pistello prece-dentemente umettato , simescolano formando unapasta glutinosa. Questa siaddiziona di una parte difosforo , e si manipola inmodo che venga , piucchètritúrate, pestato e mesco-lato, avendo cura di net-tare il pistello di ció che visi attacca, aderendolo aliasuperficie interna del mor-tajo. Questa operazione sideve compiere in tre tempi,impiegando per ciascunodi essi, sei minuti pesiando,e quattro raccogliendo lamassa a manipolare, comefu indicate in proposito
