Digest for eight days, and add
Spring Water, two pounds,
and distil. Then
R. Of this Spirit, two pounds.
Pyrotartaric Acid, half a pound.
Sulphuric Acid, three ounces.
Mix, colour with oneherry juice, andfilter. (Wirtem. ; Spielmann)
It is excitant, and used formerly to beprescribed in putrid fevers. — Dose, half adram.

Macerate for four or five days, and dis-til. Collect the oil at the bottom of thereceiver.

Anise, three ounces.
Lemon Peel, two ounces.
Alcohol, six pounds.
Distil one half. (Piderit)
Palat. ; Sard. ; and Wirtem. prescribesix ounces of zedoary, three of anise, oneof lemon peel, and eight pounds ofwhite wine ; the half to be distilled aftereight days' infusion.

A semifluid, unctuous substance, of avery strong odour, and of a whitish or yel-
lowish colour, becoming very thick andhrown by exposure to the air. It is a glan-dular secretion, and is found in a pouchsituated between the anus and genitals ofthe civet, Viverra Zibetha, Linn., one ofthe rodentia of Asia and Africa.
It is excitant, and is considered anti-spasmodic. — Dose, from five to ten grains.
