As to the round, some authors, withwhom are Ainslie and Guibourt, thinkthat it belongs to the Ktempferia rotunda,Linn. — Others think, and sucli is the opi-nion of Merat, that they are simply varietiesof the root of one plant, dependant on lo-cality and mode of growth.
It is excitant, tonic, and stomachic. —Dose, from half a scruple to half a dram, ofthe powder.
EXTRACT OF ZEDOARY.
Extractum Zedoariœ. (Brüns. ; Palat. ;Sard. ; Wirtem.)
R. Root of Zedoary, one pound.
Alcohol, five or six pounds.
After sufficient extraction, express; digestthe residue, and boil it a little with
Water, three pounds.
Clarify the decoction with white of egg,then add the tincture, and having distilledoif the alcohol, evaporate the remainder tothe proper consistence. (Bruns.; Palat.;Wirtem.)
R. Zedoary, one pound.
White Wine, five or six pounds.
Digest in a sand-bath for three days, andstrain ; boil the residue with a sufficientquantity of new wine. Mix the liquors, andevaporate slowly to the consistence of anextract. (Sard.)
TINCTURE OF ZEDOARY.
Tinctura seu Essentia Zedoariœ. (Amst. ;Bruns. ; Hann.)
R. Root of Zedoary, one part.
Alcohol (0.907), eight parts.
Digest for eight days, and filter. (Amst.)
Bruns, prescribes one part of root, andfive parts of alcohol. — Hann. — five ouncesof root, and two pound3 of alcohol.
It is excitant. — Dose, sixty drops, twicea day.
