SULPHUR.
seven parts of alcohol. — Van Mons — oneof musk and sixteen of alcohol.
It is excitant, and is recommended inepilepsy.—Dose, forty drops.
FETID TINCTURE OF AMBER. (FeRR.)
R. Rectified Oil of Amber, two drains.Subcarbonate of Potass, ] of each,Medicinal Soap, J one dram.
Alcohol, four ounces.
Filter at the expiration of a few days.
By adding a few drops of this tincture tosolution of ammonia, a kind of Eau de Luceis immediately produced.
EXPECTORANT POTION. (ELLIS)
R. Oil of Amber, eighty drops.

Gum Arabic,
Sugar,
Tincture of Balsam of Tolu,
two drams.
Water, four ounces.
Dissolve, and mix. — Dose, one spoonful,
. every two or three hours, in hooping cough.

R. Rectified Oil of Amber,
one pound and a half.Concentrated Sulphuric Acid,
half a pound.
Distil one pound in a glass retort. — It is
extolled, in Germany, against epilepsy. —
Dose, twenty or thirty drops, in syrup Of
wormwood or of mint.

A solid substance of a lemon-yellow co-lour, very friable at the least concussion,and presenting a brilliant fracture. It iscrystallizable in needles or in octohœdra,fusible, volatilizable, and inflammable ; in-sipid and inodorous, but exhaling a slightodour when rubbed. It is met with in com-merce, under two forms :
1. Roll Sulphur ; in cylinders of a moreor less dull and greyish yellow, almost al-ways containing needle-shaped crystals intheir centre.
2. Flowers of Sulphur, Sublimed Sulphur :Flores Sulphuris : in fine powder, of abeautiful yellow colour.
The pharmacopoeias of Ant. ; Bruns. ;
Hisp.; Ferr.; Fuld.; Hass.; Palat. ;Sard. ; Wirtem. ; Herbip. ; Piderit ;Swediaur f and Van Mons are the onlyOnes which require the apothecary himselfto prepare it by subliming the sulphur ofcommerce, either aJone or previously mixedwith washed sand. They direct it to bewell washed afterwards in order to free itfrom any sulphureous acid which may beformed.
This washing is required by the otherpharmacopoeias who direct the flowers ofsulphur of commerce to be used. It is thencalled Sulphur depuratum sen lotum, FloresSulphuris loli.

R. Sublimed Sulphur, one pound.Pour boiling water upon it, thatwhatever acid may be present with it,may be entirely washed away; thendry it.

Boil the sulphur in the water for ashort time ; then pour off this water,and by repeated effusions of coldwater, wash away all the acid ; finallydry the sulphur. (Edinb.)
