R. Yellow Wax,Turpentine,Tacamahac,Liquid Storax,Mastic,Labdanum,Benzoin,Cloves,Nutmeg,Oil of Mint,------ Wormwood
Soften the storax, and beat it with thelabdanum, adding- a little wax ; then meltthe wax with the turpentine, and strain ;finally add the powders and the oils.

There are distinguished :
1. Storax in tears,- Styrax yranulata seuin grants. This sort is in small, shining,transparent grains, rather unctuous, sof-tening between the teeth, of an agreeableodour and resinous taste.
2. Storax in cakes ; Styrax in massis.This sort is in reddish, odoriferous masses,sometimes of a soft consistence, and sepa-rating a honey-like liquor, of a pleasantodour, and of a bitter and resinous taste.
The first variety, which is now very rare,was the only sort known to the ancients,who called it Styrax calamita seu cannu-lata, which name has been since applied tothe second. This is called Styrax amyyda-

This balsam is said to be produced bythe Styrax officinale, Linn. ; a tree of thesouth of Europe and of the East. (Decan-dria, Monogynia, Linn. ; Ebenaceœ, Juss. ;Fiy. Enc. Met/i. t. 36!)) Perhaps it comesfrom the liquid ambar orientale, Lmk.
It is stimulant. — Dose, from ten grainsto half a dram.

Dissolve balsam of storax in rec-tified spirit, and strain the solution ;then distil off the spirit with a gentleheat till the balsam becomes of aproper consistence.
