All these preparations are intrinsicallythe same ; they scarcely differ from Hoff-mann's Balsamum Vita; except by the ab-sence of alcohol. They are employed ex-ternally in frictions to the abdomen, in fla-tulent colic, obstinate diarrhcea, and thegripes of infants ; to the temples, in cephal-algia ; to the hands held before the eyes inweakness of sight and lippitude ; and to thelimbs of weak children. A few drops arealso taken with sugar, in dyspepsia.Hoffmann's balsamum vit^e.

Sax. prescribes one part each, of the oilsof lavender, of marjoram, of cloves, of mace,of cinnamon, and of lemon, one half parteach, of the oils of rue and of amber, onepart and a half of balsam of Peru, and twohundred and forty parts of concentratedalcohol ; to be infused for four days with-out heat. — Dan.— one scruple each, of theoils of lavender, of cloves, of mace, and ofcinnamon, ten drops of oil of amber, half adram of balsam of Peru, ten ounces of con-centrated alcohol, and a little alkanet to co-lour the tincture. — Bories — ten dropseach, of the oils of cinnamon, of lavender,of cloves, of lemon, of rosemary, and ofamber, twenty drops of balsam of Peru, andtwo ounces of rectified spirit.
