Rhei aquosa, Anima Rhei. (Lond. ;Dubl. ; Edinb. ; Austr. ; Bavar. ;Genev. ; Ham. j Lusit. ; Herbip.;Brera ; Brugnatelli; Coxe ; Disp.Cha. Paris ; Niemann; Ratier)

Infusion Rhei.

R. Rhubarb, sliced, one dram.

Boiling Water, half a pint.

Macerate for two hours in a lightly

covered vessel, and strain. (Lond. ;

Dubl.)

R. Rhubarb, sliced, half an ounce.

Boiling Water, eight ounces.

Spirit of Cinnamon, one ounce.

Macerate the rhubarb with the

water for twelve hours in a lightly

covered vessel ; then add the spirit,

and strain. (Edinb.)

Disp. Cha. Paris ; and Niemann givethe same formula as Lond. Bavar. pre-scribes one part of rhubarb and twelve partsof water. -Austr. half an ounce of rhu-barb and half a pound of water. Brug-natelli three ounces of rhubarb and twopounds and a half of water. Ratier oneounce of rhubarb and two pounds of water. Hamb. one ounce of rhubarb, and asufficient quantity of water to obtain eightounces of strained infusion. Brera threedrams of rhubarb and six ounces of water.Lusit. ; and Coxe give the same formulaas Edinb. - Herbip. prescribes three dramsof rhubarb, half a pound of water, and sixdrams of spirit of cinnamon.R. Rhubarb, in powder, one ounce.

Peppermint Water, twelve ounces.

Digest in a gentle heat, andstrain. (Genev. )

It is tonic and slightly purgative ; and isrecommended in some chronic diseases, andin convalescence from acute affections ofwhich the digestive organs have not beenthe seat.

Infnsum Rhei amarum, Decoctum amaro-aroma/icum laxativum. (Ant. ; Brera)

R. Bitter Decoction, one pound.

Infusion of Rhubarb, four ounces.

Peppermint Water, one ounce.

To be taken gradually. (Brera)R. Rhubarb, three drams.

Orange Peel, half a dram.

Peppermint Water, four ounces.

Mix with the strained liquor,

Extract of Lesser Centaury,

two drams.

To be taken in the course of the day.(Augustin)

excitant and resolvent potion.

Haustus incitans et resolvens. (Brera)

R. Rhubarb, one dram.

Decoction of Cinchona, eight ounces.Infuse, and add when strained,

Camphor, triturated with Mucilage

of Gum Arabic, half a dram.

Sulphuric iEther, thirty drops.

Syrup of Orange Peel, one ounce.

Mix. Dose, two spoonfuls every two

hours.

LAXATIVE AND SEDATIVE POTION.

Infusio laxativa sedans. (Brera)

R. Infusion of Rhubarb, six ounces.

Syrup of Acetate of Morphine,

one ounce.Mix. To be taken at twice ; for irritablesubjects.

R. Infusion of Rhubarb, six ounces.

Peppermint Water, one ounce.

Hoffmann's Liquor, one scruple.Alix. To be taken at four doses.

LAXATIVE AND RESOLVENT POTION.

Potto resolvens et laxan*. (Brera)

R. Infusion of Rhubarb, eight ounces.Subcarbonate of Potass, three drams.Compound Syrup of Cichory,

one onnce.Mix. To be taken at twice or thrice.

DECOCTION OF RHUBARB.

Decoctum Rhabarbari, Anima Rhabarbari.(Hisp.)

R.

Rhubarb, braised,Water,

two drams,eight ounces.Boil a little, andstrain. For one dose.

SYRUP OF RHUBARB.

Syrupus Rhei seu Rhei palmati seu de Rheosen de Rhabarbaro. (Amer.; Ant.; Ba-ta v. ; Bavar. ; Belg. ; Fenn. ; Haps. ;Lusit. ; Suec ; Coxe ; Swediaur ;Van Mons)

R. Infusion of Rhubarb, one part.

White Sugar, two parts.

Make a syrup. (Fenn. ; Hass.; Lusit. ;Suec.)

R. Rhubarb, sliced, one part.

Boiling Water, twelve parts.

Infuse for twelve hours at the tempera-ture of from 30 to 40 degrees, and add toone part of strained liquor,
