This differs principally from the theriacby the absence of sugar and by the presenceof salts susceptible of re-action upon thoseof the opium. Each dram contains aboutfour grains of opium. It has been extolledas anodyne and antiseptic, in the dose offrom two to twenty-four grains, in pills.

Each dram contains more than one grainand a half of opium and four grains of hen-bane. It is sedative, anodyne, and somni-ferous ; it is principally recommended inflatulent colic, violent cough, and convul-sions. — Dose, from half a dram, to onedram. It is also prescribed in lavements.
