GENTIANA .—GENTIAN.

Dried Orange Peel,

one dram and a half.Fresh Lemon Peel,

half an ounce.Proof Spirit, four fluid ounces.Boiling Water,

twelve fluid ounces.

First, add the spirit to the threeformer ingredients, then, at the endof three hours, add the water, mace-rate four days, and strain. (Dubl.)

R. Gentian, sliced, half an ounce.

Diluted Alcohol, four ounces.

Water, one pound.

Herb of Lesser Centaury, 1 ofeach,

Boiling Water,Infuse for several hours,(Fuld.)

Leaves of Cichory, half an ounce.

Chamomile Flowers, half a dram.

Boiling Water, two pounds.

Infuse for half an hour, and strain. (Ca-det de Gassicoürt)

R. Gentian, half an ounce.

Macerate for twelve hours, and add to the

strained infusion

Tincture of Orange Peel, six drams.Mix. (Swediaur)

Tops of Lesser Centaury,

half an ounce.Boiling Water, one pound.

Infuse for four hours, strain, and addCinnamon Water, half an ounce.

Mix. (Genev.)

It is tonic, and is recommended in atonyof the stomach. — Dose, three ounces, twicea day.

TONIC INFUSION.

Infusum roborans. (Saunders)

R. Gentian,

Herb of Buckbean,

Tops of Milfoil,

Root of Dandelion,

Water,

Heat gradually to the point of ebullition ;then digest for three hours, and strain withexpression. Add to six ounces of the in-fusion

three drams,half an ounce.

Acetate of Potass,Spirit of Cinnamon,Mix.

ALKALIZED BITTER INFUSION.

Infusum amarum cum Natro. (Augustin)

R. Gentian, two drams.

Unripe Oranges, one dram and a half.

Lesser Cardamoms, half a dram.

Carbonate of Soda, one dram.

Boiling Water, six ounces. '

Infuse for six hours. — Dose, a spoonful,thrice a day, in dyspepsia, and atonic gout.

EMMENAGOGUE INFUSION.

COMPOUND DECOCTION OF GENTIAN.

Decoctum amarum. (Gall. ; Ferr. ;Form. Hop. Fu. ; Brera ; Cadet deGassicourt)

R. Gentian, one dram.

Water, two pounds and a half.

Boil for a quarter of an hour, and add

Bitter Species, two drams.
