GELATINA GELATINE.

CHICKEN BROTH.

Aqua Caponis. (Gall. ; Pierquin ;

Spielmann)

R. Lean Chicken, four ounces.

Water, twelve ounces.

Boil for two hours and strain. (Gall.)R. Capon cut in pieces, one.

Boil it slowly in water till the meat sepa-rates from the bones ; add to each pound ofbroth freed from fat, one pound of rosewater, and two ounces of cinnamon water.(Spielmann)

R. Root of Bugloss, of each,

--------- Asparagus, J one ounce.

Leaves of Agrimony,

------------- Pimpernel,

------------- Scabious,

Maidenhair,

of each,one handful.

Supertartrate of Potass, one dram.Chicken, one.

Boil together. (Pieröuin)R. Chicken, one.

Stuff it with

Cold Seeds, bruised, one ounce.

r, '' V of each, half an ounce.

Sugar, a sufficient quantity.

Boil slowly in three quarts of water, till

reduced to one half, and strain with slight

expression. (Piderit)

broth of crabs. (gall. ; cadet deGassicourt ; Pieröüin ; Sainte-Marie)

R. Bruised Crabs, four ounces.

Water, twelve ounces.

Boil for two hours, and strain. (Gall.)

R. Lean Fowl, one half.

Bruised Crabs, six.

Water, three pounds.

Boil to the reduction of one third, adding

towards the end,

Fresh Leaves of Borage, one handful.Chervil, one pinch.

Strain. (Cadet de Gassicourt ; Pier-auiN ; Sainte-Marie)

nutritive lavement.

Clysma nutriens. (Spielmann ; Swe-diaur)

one ounce,four ounces.

R. Gelatine,Milk,Heat till dissolved. (Swediaur)

BROTH OF SNAILS.

Jusculum helecinum. (Gall. ; Augustin ;Niemann ; Sainte-Marie)

R. Snails, freed from their shells, twenty.Crabs, bruised, two.

Water, two pounds.

Bruise together the snails and crabs in astone mortar, with a wooden pestle ; thenboil for two hours in a water-bath, andstrain the decoction when cold. (Gall.)

Sante-Marie prescribes twenty-foursnails, three pounds of water, boiled downto two, and a handful of borage. Niemann from eight to twelve snails, and twenty-four ounces of water, boiled down to six.

R. Snails, thirty.

Bruise them in a mortar and add

Quarters of Rennet Apples, six.

Dried Prunes, nine.

Spring Water, two pounds.

Boil, strain, and clarify with white of egg.

R. Snails, thirty.

Veal, six ounces.

Water, six pounds.

Boil down to two pounds. (Augustin)

BROTH OF VIPER.

Juscuïum Viperœ seu mperinum. (Hisp. ;Gall. ; Sard. ; Niemann ; Sainte-Marie)

R. Living Viper, one.

Remove the head, tail, and viscera, ex-cepting the heart and liver ; cut it intopieces, and mix it with the blood, and withWater, twelve ounces,

in a close vessel. Boil for two hours in awater-bath, and strain. (Gall.)

Niemann directs it to be boiled to onehalf, the broth to be freed from fat, a chickento be boiled in it, at first entire, then chop-ped, and the broth to be carefully skimmed.

R. One large prepared Viper,

Boil it with an equal part of the flesh oftortoise in

Weak Veal Broth, three pounds,

down to one half. (Sainte-Marie)

R. Prepared Viper, one.

Chicken, one quarter.

Veal, one pound.

Water, a sufficient quantity.

Boil in a water-bath for four or five hours,and express strongly. A scruple of cinna-mon is usually added. (Sard.)

R. Prepared Viper, one.
