FULIGO. SOOT, VEGETABLE .ETHIOPS.

In fragile, shining, black crusts, of a dis-agreeable odour, and of a bitter, empyreu-matic, and disagreeable taste.

It is composed principally of carbon, em-pyreuraatic oil, and acetic acid. Sometimesit also contains hydrochlorate of ammoniaand other salts, both alkaline and earthy.

R. Brilliant Soot, any quantity.

Distil, separate the phlegm from the oil,and re-distil. (Cadet de Gassicourt)

R. Soot, one part.

Proof Spirit, five parts.

Water, fifteen parts.

Distil four parts. (Van Mons)

These two products differ sensibly fromeach other. The former contains no em-pyreumatic oil. From twenty to thirtydrops of it are given, in hysteria and ner-vous disorders.

resolvent pills. (Hamb.)R. Soot, two drams.

Resolvent Pills, without Soap,

half an ounce.Make pills of two grains each.

RESOLVENT LINIMENT. (SAINTE-MARIE)

R. Soot, two ounces.

Whites of Egg, six.

Mix well.To be applied to tinea and tetters.

OINTMENT AGAINST TINEA. (BoRIES)

R. Soot, in powder, one ounce and a half.Sulphate of Zinc, six drams.

Lard, four ounces.

Mix.

ANTI-ATROPHIC SPECIFIC.

Specificum anti-atrophicum Wepferi.

R. Sugar Candy, four ounces.

Soot, one ounce.

Florentine Iris, half an ounce.

Prepared Root of Arum, "IDiaphoreticum Joviale, ^ of each,

--------------------- Martiale, f two drams.

Prepared Crab's Eyes, J

Mix, and make a powder.

It is recommended by Wepfer, in atro-phy and rachitis. Dose, from a scruple toa dram.

The herb [Herta Fumariœ seu Fumiterrœ,Solamen scabiosorum) is employed. It iscomposed of an angular branching, glaucousstem, of doubly-winged leaves, with notched,glaucous leaflets. It is almost inodorous,but has a bitterish taste.

It is slightly tonic. It is frequently pre-scribed in diseases of the skin, jaundice,and engorgements of the abdominal viscera.

Wirtem. ; Herbip.)R. Fresh Leaves of Fumitory, one part.Bruise them till they form a homoge-nous mass, and add

White Sugar, three parts.
