Bories directs eight ounces of sulphuricacid and four ounces of the residuum ofthe distillation of vitriol to be distilled todryness, and the residuum to be dissolvedin the liquor which passes over.
By this ridiculous formula a mere aque-ous solution of sulphate of iron is obtained,which, under the magical denomination ofan arcanum, has been for a long time ingreat vogue in the middle of France, as anexcellent remedy for arresting haemorrhages.

R. Sulphate of Iron, two drams.
Extract of Wormwood, four drains.
Syrup of Saffron, a sufficient quantity.Make one hundred and fifty pills.
They are useful in chlorosis, leucorrhcea,and in the latter stage of dropsy ; and weremuch extolled by Werlhof. — Dose, fouror five, thrice a day, accompanying eachdose with an infusion of lesser mullein orof white nettle flowers, or with weak mu-cilage.

R. Sulphate of Iron, one ounce.
Boiling Water, half a pound.
Add to the filtered solution
White Sugar, one pound.
Gum Arabic, two ounces.
Dissolve.
It is tonic and astringent, and is recom-mended in chlorosis, dropsy, and leu-corrhcea. — Dose, one or two ounces.

Swediaur prescribes ten scruples ofcalcined sulphate of iron, ten of alum, asufficient quantity of water to effect the so-lution, and ten or fifteen drops of sulphuricacid.
It is employed as tonic. — Dose, from tento fifteen drops, in water.
