The root (Radix Dictamni alai seu Fraxi-nella; seu Diptamni officinalis seu Fraxini

pumilce) is employed. It is long;, thick, andbranching. Its odour, strong and goatish[hircine] , disappears in a great measure af-ter desiccation. Its taste, aromatic andbitter, also disappears. The bark is onlyemployed ; it comes to us in white quilledpieces, of the length of an inch, possessinga feeble odour, and bitterish taste.

It is excitant, and diaphoretic, and hasbeen recommended in nervous fevers, andalso in inveterate leucorrhcea.

Dose, a scruple, twice a day.

R. Fresh Root of Fraxinella, two ounces.Alcohol, one pound.

Digest for eight days, and filter. — Dose,from twenty to sixty drops.

A shrub of North America. (PentandriaMonogynia, Linn. : Caprifoliácea', Juss. ;Fig. Zorn. Ic. pi. t. 424.)

The stalks (Stipites Diervillce) are em-ployed. They are round, of the size of aquill or larger, woody, and of a reddish-brown colour. They have a disagreeableodour, and an acrid and nauseous taste.

They are recommended as anti-syphilitic.

A plant of Italy, and of the Levant.(Pentandria Monogynia, Linn. ; Scrqfula-riœ, Juss.)

The herb is employed. It consists of astem furnished with sessile, oblong, lanceo-late leaves, glabrous on their upper sur-faces and hairy at their borders.
