EXTRACT OF STRAMONIUM.

R. Fresh Capsules of Stramonium,gathered before their maturity,
any quantity.
Cut them ; then bruise them, adding
warm water. Clarify the liquor with white
of egg, and evaporate it to the consistence
of an extract. (Van Mons)
R. Fresh Herb of Stramonium,

one pound.
Bruise them in a marble mortar, and ex-press the juice ; boil the residue with
Water, three pounds,
for an hour. Express, mix the juice withthe decoction, and evaporate. (Hass. ;Piderit)R. Fresh Herb of Stramonium,

Bruise it in a mortar, and express thejuice ; evaporate this, without skimming,till one fourth part of pulverized dry herbis required to give it the consistence of anextract. (Batav. ; Belg. ; Fenn. ; Suec.)

Bruise them with a little water, and strainthrough a sieve ; set the liquor aside, de-cant, coagulate at the fire, and strain again ;then, having evaporated to the consistenceof pilular mass, remove it from the fire, in-corporate the fécula set aside, and evapo-rate again to the required consistence.(Wirtem. ; Van Mons)
It is anti-spasmodic, sedative, and nar-cotic. — Dose, one or two grains, once ortwice a day.

Extractum Stramonii e Seminibus. (Hann. ;Hass.; Van Mons)
R. Bruised Stramonium, one pound.
Spring Water, eight pounds.
Boil down to one fourth, and strain ;boil the residue with
Spring Water, ten pounds,
till reduced to four, and strain. Mix to-
gether the two liquors, set aside for twenty-four hours, remove the supernatant oil,pour off the clear liquor, and evaporatewith a moderate heat, constantlv stirring, tothe consistence of an extract.
Dose, from the fourth of a grain to onegrain, twice or thrice a day.

R. Bruised Seeds of Stramonium,
one ounce.
Vinegar, one pound.
Digest for two days, in a covered vessel,
with frequent agitation ; add when strained
White Sugar, two pounds.
Make a syrup.

R. Bruised Stramonium Seeds,
two ounces.Malaga Wine, eight ounces.
Alcohol, one ounce.
Digest in a moderate heat, for severaldays ; then express, and filter. (Hamb. ;Hann.; Augustin; Niemann)
Van Mons directs one ounce of seeds tobe macerated, at a moderate heat, in oneounce of proof spirit, then four ounces ofMadeira wine to be added, to be digestedagain, without heat, for several days, andthen filtered. — Sainte-Marie — one ounceof seeds to be digested at a moderate heatfor three or four days, in a mixture of oneounce of alcohol (15 degrees), and twelveounces of Spanish wine.
It is superior, according to Hufeland,to opium, as a soporific ; it is said also tobe a powerful aphrodisiac. — Dose, from sixdrops to a scruple, in any proper vehicle.
