Juice of Borage, \

of each,White Sugar, j" four pounds.

Water, a sufficient quantity.

Boil to a syrup, and clarify. (Hisp.)

EXTRACT OP BORAGE. (HlSP. ; GALL.)

R. Fresh Leaves of Borage, any quantity.

Express, and clarify the juice; then eva-porate it in a water-bath to the consistenceof an extract. (Gall.)R. Fresh Leaves of Borage, any quantity.

Boil them in a sufficient quantity of

water ; then strain, and evaporate theliquor, at first over a moderate fire, andthen in a water-bath, stirring continuallywith a spatula. (Hisp.)

Dose, from a scruple to a dram.

This plant is common in Europe. (Cryp-

iogamia, Linn. ; Filices, Juss.; Fig. Zorn,

le. pi. t. 65.)

The herb (Herba Lunaria seu Lunariabotrytidos) is employed. It consists ofalated fronds composed cf eight or ten leafitsin the form of a crescent. It has a slightlystyptic taste.

It is feebly astringent.

The seeds (Semen Erucœ) are employed.They are a little larger, and less round thanthose of the mustard. They have rather adisagreeable smell, and an acrid, burning,and bitter taste.

white or yellowish colour ; and of a sweet

and agreeable taste.

The seeds (Semen Napi seu Buniadis)are small, round, black, inodorous, oleagi-nous, and of a nauseous bitterish taste.

The root is slightly stimulant, and is re-puted expectorant ; but it is more culinarythan medicinal. The seeds yield an edibleoil, which is considered diuretic.
