This is recommended in otorrhœa, tocorrect the bad odour. Soap and water isfirst to be injected.
RESOLVENT LINIMENT. (VAN MONs)
R. Peruvian Balsam, six parts.
Nitric Acid (34 degrees) , one part.Mix with agitation.
Van Mons elsewhere prescribes twoparts of balsam and one part of acid.
It is recommended for chilblains.

Spermaceti, two drams.
Peruvian Balsam, one dram.
Yolk of Egg, a sufficient quantity.
Triturate together, and add
Syrup of Marshmallows, two ounces.Mix. (Herbip.)R. Peruvian Balsam, triturated with
Yolk of Egg, one scruple.
Water, one ounce.
Alcohol, "I of each,
Syrup of Marshmallows, J two drams.

Sainte-Marie prescribes two ounces ofbalsam, two yolks of eggs, four drains ofextract of cinchona, and six ounces ofhoney of roses.
Dose, a spoonful, twice or thrice a day.This formula is by Werlhof.

R. Peruvian Balsam, one dram and a half.Yolks of Eggs two.
Syrup of Liquorice, three ounces.
Mix. — Dose, a tea spoonful every threehours.
PECTORAL lozenges.
R. White Sugar, one pound.
Flower (Givre) of Vanilla,
eighteen grains.Tincture of Amber, eight drops.
Tartaric Acid, eighteen grains.
Dry Peruvian Balsam, one dram.
Rose Water, 1 of each,
Gum Tragacanth, J asufficientquantity.
Triturate the balsam with a little sugarand a sufficient quantity of rose water, heatmoderately, and filter. Reduce the gum tomucilage with this liquor, and add the otheringredients with the remainder of the sugar.
This formula was given by Boudet, inthe Bulletin de Pharmacie.
BALSAMUM RAKASIRA.—RAKASIRA BALSAM.

This is a substance of a yellow-brown orbrownish - red colour, semi-transparent,brittle, softening and becoming extensibleby heat. It is inodorous when cold, butexhales a very agreeable odour when
heated. It possesses a balsamic and bit-terish taste.
It is brought from America ; but we areignorant of the vegetable which produces it.
It is stimulant ; and was formerly cele-brated in gonorrhoea and in the diseases ofthe urinary passages.
