PRESCRIPTIONS.

tain facts with which she was acquainted, saysit will do to take it green out of the garden, atany time, and make a tea of it, and it will curethe bite of the mad dog.

The manner in which the hydrops was directedto be given by father Miller, is to have it driedand powdered, and to put as much of the powderas will lie on a quarter of a dollar, on a piece ofbread and butter, and let the person or creatureeat it; and let this be done three days succes-sively. (But we may know that a cow or a horsemay take ten times as much as a man.) It isadvisable to lose no time in giving it.

In this manner a family with whom 1 am ac-quainted, made a fair and successful proof of it.A boy and a dog or two took the powdered herb, and continued well; while some other creatures, bitten at the same time, underwent the awfulagony and died.

The efficacy of this herb, in curing the bite ofthe mad dog, is asserted by so many, that nodoubt of it can remain. It has been publishedin the public news, and in a Dutch almanac, butI have not had the advantage of either of them toassist me in this prescription. This is the curementioned in the preface.

My acquaintance with the hydrops is too smallto enable me to judge much of its virtues, or ofits general operation. But I make no doubtthat it possesses the most rare qualities. Proba-bly it may be found an antispasmodic of the mostsalutary kind. I think it may safely be tried inmania or derangement, epilepsy, cramp, hyste-rics, &c. and the quantities, times and manner ofgiving, may vary at discretion.
