The place of his birth was onlyknown from the declaration he madein an act for the purchase of anestate, which is thus dated : Reg-nante Balduino Rege et Regind Mili-sanda ejus Mudre: to which areadded the following words, Gilebertusde Tyre.

De Vaisette, who has written theHistory of Languedoc, confoundsthis grand-master with Gauceline orGaucelin d’Assilan, and places himbefore Gerbert d’Assaly.

He accompanied the king of Jeru-salem to Egypt .

He assisted in taking Belbeis, orPelusium, according to some au-thors ; and Leontopolis, accordingto others. This town was sold tothe Hospitallers, who evacuated itthe same year.

Died on his passage from Dieppeto England, on the 19th of Septem-ber .
