again, being firft mix'd, with every Pound ofCalx fix Ounces of Sulphur, ftirring it con-tinually as it burns, that it may not (tick tothe Pan, and become black ; powder theCalx again and calcine and repeat it threeTimes, 'till the Calx becomes very red.Take of this red Calx in Powder, onePound ; fair Water, fix Pounds ; boil themtogether for about four Hours ; let it cooland fettle, decant the clear faphirine Liquor,and filtrate it after it has flood about twoDays. The remaining Copper calcine as be-fore with Sulphur, three Ounces, and withWater in like Manner draw the Tincture :This Prccefs of calcining, boiling, fettling,and filtrating, is to be done fix or fevenTimes, 'till with Water you have extractedthe whole faphirine Azure, or blue Tinctureout of the Copper. Thefe blue filtrated Li-quors put together, and in a large earthenBell, in a Sand Heat, not violent, evapo-rate the Water 'till a Piliicle arife, which be-ing then put into a cold and moift Place fora Night, will (hoot into Chryftals like greatGems. Glauber, extracts the Tincture fromcalcin'd Copper, with Spirit of Sal Ar-monisck, by freq'unt Ignition and Ex-tinction, and in an Hour's- Space extracts ablue Colour, which being fet to chr> ftallizein a cold Place, fhoots into raoft elegant blueVitriol. Beguinus does it with Spirit of Vi-negar, but then the Vitriol will be of an ob-fcure green Colour.

The Native Blue Stone is good againftDifeafes of the Eyes, taking away Films,Clouds, Pearls, &e. Rheums, Rednefs, In-flammation and Blood-ftot, if you take theStone and put it into a little Spring orWell^Water, for about two Minutes Time,and then take the Water with a Linning Ragto wafli the E)es, and drop two or threeDrops into them, at Bed Time : It curethany running Sore or Ulcer/or inveterate Fi-ftula, Tetters, Ringworms, Scurf, &c. but■for thefe latter D.f.afes, the Stone ought tolie in Water for a Quarter of an Hour. Italfo helps che Canker in the Mouth, by rub-bing the Place with the Stone, and waihingthe Mouth with the Water.

The factitious blue Stone is given fromtwo or three Grams, to twelve or fifteen inptoper Liquors, againft Difeaiesof the Head,Stctnacb, and Parts of Generation. It is

often us'd in Injections in proper Vehicles,one Dram to one Pound of Liquor for allSores, Ulcers, Scabs, Itch, Tetters, or any-other cutaneous Difeafe. Inwardly it killsthe Worms. It may be given in a lmallDofe againft Difeafes of the Stomach andBrain ; it ftrengthens the Brain againft agrowing Epilepfy. It is alio a Specifick tocleanfe the Womb, and is held as a greatSecret to diffolve a little of it in Water a-gainft the burning and intemperate Heat ofthe fpermatick Veffels, and fo to ufe it forInjections : For as this Vitriol poffefies alarge Portion of the Sulphur of Venus, whichis able to appea'.e the Irritation of thofe Parts,fo alfo it produces rare and eminent Effects, byVirtue of its deterfive and refrigerative Salt.

The Red Vitriol, call'd Colcotbar, is a Vi-triol that has been naturally calcin'd in theMines by fubterrancous Fire, or artificiallyby ordinary Fire. That which is found na-turally in the Mine, is call'd Chalcitis, be-caufe 'tis taken from Copper Mines : It is abrownifti red Stone, whicn is brought to usfrom Sweden and Germany : It is rare, andwe have fcarce enough of it to ufe in ourVenice Treacle, of which it is one of the In-gredients.

That is beft which is of a reddilh Brown,of the Tafte of Vitriol, and eafily diffolv'd inWater.

The Colcotbar, calcin'd by the commonFire, is of a pleafant Red ; the beft is thaiwhich remains in the Retorts after the Diftil-lation of the Spirit and Oil of Vitriol ; bothone and the other Colcoihar contain a grea:deal of Salt and metallick Earth.

FzVno/ischymically analiz'd after the fol-lowing Manner : Fill a Glafs Matrafs, o?Cucurbit, up to the Middle with Vitriolpowder'd ; then clapping on the Head, fit-ting the Receiver, and luting the Joynts, di-ftill it with a Sand Heat, that the Ros orFiegm of the Vitriol being of a ftrong (harpTafte may be drawn oft"; then take of whremains in the Matrafs, brutie or powder it,and throw it into a Retott, encreafing theF;re gradually three or four Days, and youwill obtain a spirit and an Oil : And, L,ly, From the Caput Mortuum of the Vyidiffolv'd, an Earth and Sale is obtain'd.
