THLASPI.
Four species of this genus are employed :
1. Thlaspi campestre, Linn.Gall.
A common plant of Europe. (Tetra-dynamia Si/iculosa, Linn. ; Crucifera-,Juss. ; Fig. Blackw. Herb. t. 409)
The seeds {Semen Thlaspeos) are em-ployed. They are round, flattish, of a deep-brown colour, and of an acrid and pungenttaste.
2. Thlaspi arvense, Linn. — Penny Cress.

The herb and seeds are employed.
The herb (Herha Nasturtii hortensis)consists of a branching stem, and of alter-nate, petiolated, long, smooth, and multifidleaves.
The seeds are oblong, smooth, and oí abrown colour.
The plant exhales, by rubbing, a feeblebut agreeable odour ; its taste is bitterishand acrid.
It is excitant and anti-scorbutic.
4. Thlaspi Bursa Pastoris, Linn. — Shep-herd's Purse.

The herb (Herta Bursee pastoris seuCancri seu Sanginarite) is employed. Itpresents an assemblage of radical pinnatifidleaves. It has a vapid odour, resemblingthat of cabbage, and an acrid and astrin-gent taste.
It is very feebly astringent, and is scarcelyever used.
