TEUCRIUM.
A plant of the south of Europe. {Fig.Cav. II. t. 120)
The herb (Herba Ivœ seu ChamcepytyosMonspeliacoi) is employed. It consists ofa branching stem bearing entire leaves fur-nished with but two teeth at the summit.It has a strong, resinous, and slightly muskyodour, particularly during hot weather, anda bitter taste.

The flowering herb (Herba Mari veri senSyriaci) is employed. It consists of slen-der cottony stems, furnished with small,oval, lanceolated, petiolated leaves of grey-ish-green colour above and white and cot-tony beneath, and of purpurine flowers,solitary in the axilla? of the superior leaves,but so approximated as to form a long la-teral, secund raceme. It has a very aro-matic and penetrating odour, and a pungent,acrid, aromatic, and bitterish taste.
It is stimulant, diaphoretic, diuretic,emmenagogue, pectoral, and sternutatory.

Concentrated Alcohol, three ounces.Digest for four days, at a slow tempera-ture, in a covertd vessel, occasionally shak-ing the vessel ; then filter.
It is extolled in paralysis. It may begiven to those with whom the infusion ofthe plant occasions nausea. — Dose, fortydrops.

Aqua vulneraria seu styptica Clementina.(Ferr.)

Muriate of Soda, \ of each,
Subcarbonate of Potass, j six ounces.
Supertartrate of Potass, four ounces.
Aloes, one ounce and a half.
Vinegar, one pound.
Digest for twenty-four hours, and distilto dryness. Pulverize the residue, add it tothe product, and re-distil. Repeat this ope-ration three times successively. — Dose, tohalf an ounce.

The flowering herb (Herba et SummitatesTeucrii seu Polii Cretici seu Roris?nariniStœchadis facie) is employed. It consistsof a square stem furnished with sessile,lanceolated, entire leaves, and of violet-co-loured, petiolated flowers, disposed bythrees in axillary racemes. It has a strong,agreeable, and aromatic odour, and a verybitter taste.
7. Teucrium montanum, Linn.
Synonime :— Polium de montagne, Fr.
Gall.

The tops (Summitates Polii montant) areemployed. They consist of cottony, whit-ish branches, furnished with lanceolated,entire leaves, curved at the borders, cottonybeneath, and of whitish or yellowish flow-ers, nearly sessile, forming a kind of round,terminal umbel.
It has a pleasant odour, and a bittertaste.
