R. Root of Madder, one pound.
Water, three pounds.
Boil, express, clarify the liquor with
white of egg, and evaporate it to the proper
consistence.
ALCOHOLIC EXTRACT OF MADDER.
Extradural Rubia tinctoriœ aîcohoïicum.(Bruns. ; Hann.)
R. Root of Madder, two parts.
Alcohol, three parts.
Water, nine parts.
Digest in a covered vessel, and express ;distil off the alcohol slowly, and evaporatethe rest to the proper consistence. (Hann.)
Bruns, directs the wood to be exhaustedby alcohol, the mixed tinctures to be eva-porated, the spirit distilled off, and the re-mainder evaporated to the proper consist-ence.

Boil down to two thirds. Add whenstrained
Aromatic Tincture, two drams.
Syrup of Citric Acid, two ounces.
Mix. — It is astrinffent, and is recom-mended in jaundice, chlorosis, amenorrhoea,and chronic catarrhal affections. — Dose,three ounces, three or four times a day.
