R. Depurated Juice of Elecampane

Root, one pound and a half.

White Sugar, two pounds and a half.Dissolve, and strain.

R. Root of Elecampane, one ounce.

Boiling Water, two pounds.

Infuse, strain, and addHoney, or Syrup of Maidenhair,

one ounce.Mix,

aqueous extract of elecampane.

R. Fresh Root of Elecampane,

any quantity.Having washed it well, rasp it ; and ex-press the juice ; hruise the residue with alittle water, and express : strain the liquorthrough flannel, and evaporate it with agentle heat to the consistence of an extract.(Genev.; Van Mons)

R. Root of Elecampane, one pound.

Spring Water, six pounds.

Macerate for four days in a warm place,

then boil a little : express and evaporate

the decoction. (Bruns. ; Lipp. ; Palat.)

R. Root of Elecampane, one pound.

Cold Water, four pounds.

Macerate in a covered vessel, stirring oc-casionally, and strain ; pour more water onthe residue and macerate again ; then ex-press slightly, mix the two liquors, andhaving strained, evaporate them in a water-hath. (Gall.)

R. Root of Elecampane, onepart.

Boiling Water, eight parts.

Digest for twenty-four hours, then boilfor a quarter of an hour, and strain ; hoilthe residue for a quarter of an hour in fourparts of fresh water, and strain. Mix thetwo liquors, set aside, decant, and evapo-rate. (Ant.)

Batav. prescribes twenty-four hours' di-gestion and two hours' ebullition with tenparts of water, and a second ebullition for

two hours with eight parts of water. —Amst. — boiling first with twenty, then withfifteen, parts of water, to be reduced eachtime to one half. — Hisp, — twenty-fourhours' digestion and two hours' boiling inten parts of water, then a second boilingwith a fresh quantity of water to be reducedto one half.

Exhaust the root by several successiveboilings, mix the decoctions, and after dé-cantation, evaporate. (Austr. ; Suec.)

Dose, from a scruple to half a dram.

Decoctum Helenii. (Niemann)

R. Root of Elecampane, half an ounce.Spring Water, a sufficient quantityto obtain six ounces of strained decoction.— Dose, one or two spoonfuls, every twohours.

COMPOUND DECOCTION OF ELECAMPANE,

Hydromel composé. (Ratier)

R

Root of Elecampane, one ounce.

Tops of Hyssop, of each,

Leaves of Ground Ivy, J two drams.Water, a sufficient quantity.

Boil, and add when strained,

Syrup of Honey, two ounces.

Mix. — It is slightly stimulant, and is re-commended in chronic catarrh, asthma, andaneurisms of the heart.
