HYPERICUM.

Digest in a water-bath, express, and fil-ter. (WlRTEM.)

The leaves and calices should be removed,if not the oil will be green instead of red.Spielmann's formula differs very littlefrom this.

It used formerly to be esteemed anodyne,nervine, vulnerary, anti-spasmodic, andanti-nephritic. The two following prepa-rations come near it :

1. Oleum Catellorurn. Oil of Puppies.

R. Blind Puppies, three.

Olive Oil,

forty-eight ounces.

Boil to the consumption of the humidity,and strain. Add

Herb of Origanum,

---------- Pennyroyal,

---------- St. Jobn's-wort,

---------- Marjoram,

of each,two ounces.

Muriate of Soda, six ounces.

Boil till the flesh becomes detached fromthe bones, and the humidity is dissipated ;then strain and preserve.
