Thefe are the PiluU Foetidt ma-jores of Meßte, and which our Col-lege tranfcribed exactly into theirfirft Difienfatory, as alfo it is inthe Attgufian in the fame man-ner ; but on a Review the Bdel-lium hath been expunged, as ha-ving no Virtues correfponding tothe Intention of the whole: TheEuphorbium hath been likewifeleffened by half its quantity becauièof its exceiïïve Heat and Pungency,Some other fmall alterations arelikewife made that are not of mo-ment enough for any particular no-tice. Ghuercetan hath a Compoft-tion under the Title of FiluU deEuphorbio, not greatly unlike thefe, and which are tranfcribed by Schro-der, who hath, Lib, 4. taught ma-

ny ways how to correct the Eu-phorbium, as by baking it in a Ci-tron or a Lemon, or diffblving andwaihing it with various Acids ;which means are imagined to abateits cauftic fiery Nature. The Ati-gußan Difienfatory likewife ordersit for the fame End, to be reducedto a kind of Pulp or Mafs, with Oilof Sweet Almonds, and then ma-cerated warm in any acid Juices 5but the quantity it is here reduc-ed to, requires no fuch great trouble.Zwelfer greatly recommends thisCompofition in arthritic Affecti-ons, and cutaneous FouIneiTes, be-fides many other Cafes ; and theprefent Practice gives fome reputa-tion to its Virtues, by directing itfometimes in nervous and h;. flericDiforders, to which lad Intentionthe College feeni now to have hada particular regard, by the addi-tion of Affa F&tidti, which wasnever in it before : But the Mafsis fomewhat difïkulr to keep with-out moulding, which" feems owingto the juice of Leeks ufed for dii-folving the Gums, and not givingBody enough to keep it from dry-ing : The bed way is to confineit in an oily Bladder, and a leadenPot. This is a well contriv'd Purgeof all kinds of Humours, which laya load upon the Nerves, and theprincipal things of the animalMachine ; for it is full of hot andpenetrating parts ; and as the Scam-mony acts as a Cathartic la themore open Paffhges, others carrythe fame Quality into the reiuotefr.ReceiTes, and clear away watry andpituitous Humours from all theGlands and Capillaries ; but particu-larly thofe mucous Fouine/Tes whichfrequently diforder the W/omb.For thefe reafons this is a notable• Purge in all Diitempers of the Headas Apoplexies, Epilepfies, Palfies,

and
