different Titles, and (or the fameIntention as this, both in officinaland extemporaneous Dif enfatortes :tho our College had nothing of thiskind in their firil Difpenfatory, yetin the laft but one, they have aCompofition under the fame Title, which hardly at all differs from thePiluU Hydropiat of Bontius, for-merly a noted Phyfician to thePrince of Orange in Holland, andwhich Schroder hath given in hisPharmacopoeia Medica-Chymica, Lib.2. Cap, 73. There is a Prefcrip-tion of Horflius, under the Titleof PiluU de Hydrargyro, whereinMercury, Aloes, and Scammonyhave the greatefl fhare, and havelikewife Oil of Turpentine directedin them : But this Compofitioncertainly excels any preceeding onesof the like Intention, both forUniformity and Efficacy. This isa very rough Purge, and cannotfafely be given from above gr. x,to 3 fs. It is reckon'd a greatPurger of Water, and is thereforechiefly given in Dropfles, and fuchlike Cachexies, that are attendedwith too great an Excefs of Bu'k ;in which cafe, it is a powerful Medi-cine, but it is not often prefcribed.
