EXTRACTUM LIGNI CAMPE-CHEN3IS.

Extract of Logwood,

Take of the fhavings of Logvvood onepound.

Boil them four times, or offener, in a gallonofdiftilled water, to one half ; then, all theliquors being mixed and ilrained, boil themdown to a proper confiftence.

If the difficuky with which Logwood communi-cates its virtue to an aqueous menftruum wouldfeem to require it to be powdered, yet, if the Apo-thecary buys it ground to a coarfe powder only,there is danger, however cheap the Logwood, ofhaving it rnixed with Jamaica and other woods ftillcheaper, the detedion of which, in that ftate, isaot eafy, and in a fine powder fcarcely poffible.
