Durch Einwirkung von Säuren wird die «-Campholensäure — in analoger Weisewie ix- in ^-Campholytsäure — in die p'-Campholeiisäure' urngelagert; das Nitrildieser Säure kann auch direct aus Camplieroxim durch starke Säuren (Jodwasser-stoff) gewonnen werden. Diese Umlagerung ist S. 968 erklärt worden.

Die Constitution der optisch-inactiven ^-Campholensäure ergiebt sich ans ihremVerhalten bei der Oxydation. Durch Pormanganat entstellt zunächst die (9-Pioxy"diliydrocampholensäure 2 , welche durch Chromsäure zu Dimethylliexanoiisäin'e— identisch mit dem Abbauprodukt der fJ-Campholytsäure —, weiter zu a «Dinie-thy Iglutarsäure und Dimethylbernsteiusäure oxydirt wird:

Als Nebenprodukt bei der Oxydation der (9-Campholensäure zur (9-Dioxydihydro-campholensäure entsteht eine ölige Säure, welche leicht Kohlensäure verliert undin ein Keton C 9 H I4 0, das Isocampherphoron 3 , d 2 -1.1.2-Tr/nie///ylcyclokexmon(4)(vgl. S. 830, Tabelle 70), übergeht. Man kann jetzt das Auftreten dieses KetonSfogendermassen erklären (vgl. S. 1024 Isolauronsäure):
