Sir John Kendall, Turcopolier, 3 one of sevengrand crosses, whom the Chapter General of1478 elected to be more particularly at the grandmaster’s disposal during the approaching siege,whether sent where he pleased, or kept near him atRhodes. So he despatched Kendall for succoursto England, where he had been often residentambassador, and had him back from thence asfast as possible, after 9th of April, 1480, dateof the king’s mandate at Westminster ; so Kendallmight be back at Rhodes in the middle of the nextmonth; and surviving the siege, went in 1489 onan embassy to Rome, where he died, while they atRhodes elected him thirty-second Grand Prior ofEngland. 4

10. Sir Thomas Docray, one of the sixteen inthe election of D’Aubusson; but outlived the siege,and came by turns to every one of the three grandcrosses in the English language; Turcopolier,
