CourteousREADER.IT's sufficiently known how eminently France andespecially the Royal Court doth excell with allmanner of delights aboue all other places. The admi-rable faire Buildings and Gardens with all immaginableornaments and delightful spectacles there in representinto the ey of the beholders such abundant, and richmatter, so as it weoly rarisheth the spectators. Amoms althese there is nothing more admirable & praysyworthythen the Royall Garden at Versailles, and in it the La-byrinth. Other representatives are commonly estiemedbecause they please the eye, but this because it not onelydelights the eare and eye, but together instructeth andedifies te hart and soul. This Labyrinth is seated in awood so artificially and pleasant, as Dedalus him selfwould have stood amazed to behold it.The Turnings and Windings on both sides thewot withgreen cropt hodges, are not at all tedious (as commonlyis in other Labyrinth) by reason there is not any onewinding buth in the same just and presenth divers faireFountaines, every one of them in particular with Figu-res and Waterworckserg representing most artificially themysterious and teachabel fables of Aesop with an Expli-cation what Fable every Fountain representh, it beingin golden Letters upon black marble together with anelegant vers onder the same, composed by MonsieurBenserade.
