Inftitutio Ordinis.

Nec aliud quicquam ut certum hic aflèverari queat, quam quod Deus om-nem undiq; Vi&oriam & Felicitatem omnifariam tribuat. Oratio nimi-rum ac humilitas probiflittie viam affectant. Clamemus (inquit) in Coelum,& miferebitur noftfi Deus nofter. Dicamus Domino, Tua eft Potentia,tuum Regnum, Tu Dominus Omnipotens qui fecifti Virtutem, & Victo-riam dedifti Nobis de Inimicis noftris. Cognofcant Gentes quod non eftalius qui pugnet pro Nobis, nifi tu Deus. Domine Deus, nos ignoramusomnino, quid agere debeamus. Igitur ad te fiint Oculi noftri ne pereamus.Sciant Gentes quod eft Deus, qui redimat & liberet Ifrael. Quinam hic Ii-raeles habentur (obfècro,) nifi jam Nofmetipfi, qui per deificami & opero-fam Fidem videmus Deum, & in veraciflimis Verbis ejus ac promiffis il-lum ipfum intuemur, Contemplamur, fcquimur. Ipfe Nos interim redimit,protegit, fervat, ipfe liberat, & demum Eternitati nos ipfi reftituit. At quidfa&itantes i Quod illi facientes, nos (inquiunt) fatigati fumus Jejunio. Je-junaverunt & induerunt fe Ciliciis, cinerem impofuerunt Capiti fuo, fcide-runt Veftimenta, & clamaverunt Voce magna in Cœlum. En veram hu-militatem, Vitalis Orationis Comitem individuam. Quæ duo nos nifi pre-miferimus, quid in nobis, ut eo facilius Deus ipfe refpiciat, & nos temporevel tribulationis vel correótionis adjutet, propitiandoq; præ Cæteris quirepelluntur, fiifcipere velit ? Sed beneficentia quæ paffim & illico mifèref-cere folet, patienter & humiliter ad omne le bonum apparare quæ proximicitra contumeliam e veftigio levat Infirmitatem atque Indigentiam : non-nihil

it is not for us to enquire , nubat it is that induces God to permit, or grant theone or the other : all that can he affirmed here, is that God only is the Author ofall ViUory and Profperity : And that Prayers, and Humility, are the only pro-bable Means of obtaining them. The Almighty God is our Strength, and hathgiven us the Viclory over our Enemies. Let theKations know, that it is God who redeemeth and delivereth Ifrael. Who is it,I pray, that is here called Ifrael, but we our felves, who now by a godly and live-ly Faith accompanied by Works fee God, and behold, contemplate and follow himin the Truth of his Words and Promifes. He in the mean Time redeems, protects,and faves us, he delivers us and at laß brings us to eternal Happinefs.But by doing what ? What they did. We {fay they) are wearied with Fafting,they faßed, and cloathed themfelves with Sackcloth, and put Afies on their Head.They rent their Garments, and cried with a loud Voice to Heaven. This is trueHumility the infeparable Companion of a lively Prayer. Which two Things if wehad not premifed, what can there be in us why God ßould the readier regardand affiß us in the Time either of Dißrefs or Corre&ion, and be willing to receiveus by favouring ns before the others who are refufed Ì But Charity, which is wontin all Places, and without any Delay, to take Companion and apply it felf with Pa-tience and Humility to every good Work, and which without any Contempt imme-diately relieves the Weaknefs and Poverty of our Neighbour, is of great Efficacy
