be a Knight Grand Cross, and the Chevalier Condari, to be a Knight Commander of the Most Dis-tinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; and whereas, in consequence of Our absencefrom the said United States of the Ionian Islands, the Ceremony of Investing the said Chevalier MarinoVeja, and the said Chevalier Condari, cannot personally be performed by Us, know ye that We, of OurPrincely grace and special favour, do hereby authorize and require you at such time and place, as mayappear to you most proper and expedient, to proceed in Our name, and in Our behalf, to the Cere-monial of the Investiture of the said Chevalier Marino Veja with the Ensigns of a Knight GrandCross, and the said Chevalier Condari, with the Ensigns of a Knight Commander of Our said Order, inthe most honourable and distinguished manner, as directed in and by the Statutes of the Order,wherein you are to take especial care that nothing be omitted which may redound to the honour,splendour, and dignity of Our said Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, andwhich may at the same time evince Our Royal regard for the Chevalier Marino Veja, and the Che-valier Condari, on whom We have been graciously pleased to confer the Insignia thereof respectively.

“ ‘ Given at Our Court at Carlton House, the thirtieth day of July, Onethousand eight hundred and twenty-five, in the sixth year ofOur reign.

“ ‘Warrant empowering the Lord High Commissioner in and for theUnited States of the Ionian Islands, to Invest Chevalier MarinoVeja, with the Insignia of a Knight Grand Cross, and ChevalierCondari, with the Insignia of a Knight Commander of the MostDistinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George.’ ”

“ During the reading of the Warrants, a Royal Salute was fired, and His Excellency stooduncovered.

“ The acting King of Arms then, by order of His Excellency, proclaimed the names of the Distin-guished Persons who were to be Invested with the Insignia of several Classes of the Order.

“ The acting King of Arms, accompanied by the two junior Knights Grand Crosses of the Order,retired, making three reverences to the Throne, and then introduced into the Hall of Saint Michael theKnight Grand Cross Elect, His Highness Chevalier Veja, the acting King of Arms being in front, andbearing on a velvet cushion the Insignia of a Knight Grand Cross, the abovementioned Knight GrandCrosses supporting the Knight Grand Cross Elect, conducted him towards the Throne, making threereverences, and having arrived near to the same, the acting King of Arms presented to His Excellencythe Insignia of the Order. The Knight Grand Cross Elect having knelt, the Prelate of the Orderadministered to him the prescribed Oath, after which His Excellency Invested him with the Insignia ofa Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George.

“ His Excellency then delivered the Admonition required by the Statutes, when the Knight GrandCross newly Invested arose, and making three reverences, retired to the right of the Throne, when theRegistrar presented to him an authenticated copy of the Statutes of the Order.

“On the Investiture of His Highness Chevalier Marino Veja being concluded, a Royal Salute wasfired.

“ The acting King of Arms then retired, accompanied by the two junior Knights Commanders of theOrder, making the usual reverences, and then introduced into the Hall of Saint Michael the KnightCommander Elect, the Most Illustrious Doctor Pietro Coidan, the acting King of Arms being in front,and bearing on a velvet cushion the Insignia of a Knight Commander, the two Knights Commanderssupporting the Knight Commander Elect, conducted him towards the Throne, making three reverences,and having arrived near the same, the acting King of Arms presented to His Excellency the Insigniaof a Knight Commander of the Order. The Knight Commander Elected having knelt, the Prelate ofthe Order administered to him the prescribed Oath, after which His Excellency Invested him with theInsignia of a Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George.
