THE REGISTRAR.]
ORDER OF SAINT PATRICK.

and Knights at the Banquet after an Installation. 4 The Office is united to thatof Dean of the Cathedral Church of Saint Patrick by the Statutes, but by thesame indirect words as have just been pointed out, in the case of the Chancellor. After providing that the Chancellor shall take the suffrages at elections, theStatutes proceed, “ or in his absence the Registrar; that is, to wit, the Dean ofthe Cathedral Church of Saint Patrick, in Dublin, for the time being.” 5
The duties of the Registrar consist in administering the Declaration andAdmonition, and taking the suffrages, in the absence of the Prelate andChancellor; 6 and it may be inferred that he is to record and keep a Registerof all the transactions of the Order (though nothing on the subject occurs in theoriginal Statutes), for many of the Warrants and other Instruments are saidto be “ duly recorded in the Book and Register of the Order.” He has no
salary, but receives for his Fee, £25 upon theInvestiture, and £25 upon the Installation ofevery Knight Companion.
The Registrar’s Habit is described, in theOrdinance annexed to the original Statutesof 1783, as being: “ the same as that of the Pre-late and Chancellor, but it shall be shorter;” 7and this is repeated in the Statute of May1833,® by which an alteration was made inthe Ensign to be worn on the Mantles of thePrelate and Chancellor, and a new Badgewas ordered to be placed on that of the Se-cretary, Genealogist, Usher, and King ofArms. His Badge, which is worn to a sky-blue Ribband from the neck, is of gold in theshape of a Book, charged with the sameDevice as that of the Chancellor, richly em-bossed.

4 At the Banquet after the Installation in May 1819, the Grand Master sat at the head of the Table, the Prelate on the South, and the Chancellor on the North side, and the Registrar at the foot. It doesnot appear that the Registrar dined with the Grand Master and Knights after the first Installation inMarch 1783, nor when the custom commenced.
