Anne, Countess of Stafford, daughter of Thomas,Duke of Gloucester, K.G., and widow of Edmund,Earl of Stafford, K.G., who was slain at Shrews-bury in 1403. She married secondly, WilliamBourchier, Earl of Ewe, K.G. Received Robesas “ Countess of Stafford” in 1405. Died 1438 or1439.

Eleanor, Countess of Salisbury, fourth daughter ofThomas, and sister and co-heiress of EdmundHoland, Earls of Kent, Knights of the Garter;and wife of Thomas de Montacute, 4th Earl ofSalisbury, K.G. Received Robes as “ Lady deMontacute” in 1405, and as “ Countess of Salis-bury, Junior,” in 1408, 1409, 1413, and 1416.Died before 1426.

Philippa, Queen of Denmark, Consort of Eric,King of Denmark, and second daughter of KingHenry the Fourth. Received Robes as “ Queenof Denmark” from 1408 to 1411, and in 1416.

Margaret Lady Beaufort, afterwards Countess ofDorset, daughterof Sir Thomas Neville, of Hornby,and wife of Sir Thomas Beaufort, K.G., afterwardsEarl of Dorset and Duke of Exeter. ReceivedRobes as “ Lady Beaufort” in 1408, 1409, and as“Countess ofDorset” in 1413. Died 1458.

Lady Blanch of Lancaster, eldest daughter of KingHenry the Fourth. She married first, Lewis of Bava-ria, eldest son of Rupert, Emperor of Germany. Re-ceived Robes as ‘ ‘ Lady Blanch the King’s daugh ter ”in 1408 and 1409.

Lady Waterton, probably Ellen, daughter of RobertMowbray, and widow of Sir Hugh Waterton, whowas governor of the Princesses Joan and Philippa ;but she is said (Beltz’s “ Memorials of the Garter,”p. ccxxiii.) to have been Margaret, daughter of....Clarell, and wife of Sir Robert Waterton. She mayhowever, have been the “ Cecilia Waterton,” who,in 1408, was one of the Maids of Honour (Domi-cella) of the Queen. Received Robes in 1408,1409, 1413 and 1416.

Joan Lady Burnell, daughter of Sir John, 1st LordDevereux, and sister and heiress of John, 2nd LordDevereux, K. G. She married first, Walter LordFitz Walter,and secondly, Hugh Lord Burnell, K.G.Received Robes as “ Lady Burnell” in 1409.

Beatrix, Countess of Arundel, natural daughter ofJohn the First, King of Portugal, and wife of Tho-mas Fitz Alan, Earl of Arundel and Surrey, K.G.She married secondly, John Holand, Earl of Hun-tingdon and Duke of Exeter, K.G. ReceivedRobes as “ Countess of Arundel” in 1413 and1416. Died 13th November 1439.

KATHERINE, QUEEN OF ENGLAND, Consortof King Henry the Fifth, and daughter ofCharles the Sixth, King of France. She marriedsecondly, Owen Tudor. Received Robes in 1421.Died 9th January 1437.

Joan Lady Grey, Countess of Tancarville, daugh-ter and co-heiress of Sir Edward Cherleton LordPowis, K.G.,wife of Sir John Grey, Count of Tan-carville, in Normandy, K.G. She is representedon her Tomb with a Garter on her left arm, (Videp.499, antea). Died 1425.

Jaqueline, Duchess of Gloucester, daughter andheiress of William, Duke of Hainault and Holland,Count of Ostrevant, K.G. Although the wife ofJohn, Duke of Brabant, she married Humphrey,Duke of Gloucester, K.G. Received Robes as“ Duchess of Gloucester” in 1423. Her marriagewith the Duke of Gloucester was declared invalidabout 1425. Died 1436.

Eleanor, Duchess of Gloucester, daughter of Regi-nald Lord Cobham, of Sterborough, and wife ofHumphrey, Duke of Gloucester, K.G. ReceivedRobes from 1432 to 1441.

Isabel, Countess of Warwick, daughter of Thomasle Despencer, Earl of Gloucester, K.G., and wifeof Richard Beauchamp, Earl of Warwick, K.G.She married first, Richard Beauchamp, Earl ofWorcester. Received Robes as “ Countess ofWarwick” from 1432 to 1436. Died December,1439.

Alice, Countess, Marchioness, and Duchess ofSuffolk, daughter and heiress of Thomas Chaucer,and wife of William de la Pole, Earl, Marquess,and Duke of Suffolk, K.G. She married first,Sir John Phelyp ; and secondly, Thomas de Mon-tacute, 4th Earl of Salisbury, K.G. ReceivedRobes as “ Countess of Suffolk” from 1432 to1444; as “ Marchioness of Suffolk” from 1445 to1448 ; and as “ Duchess of Suffolk” in 1449; andthe Garter is on her arm on her effigy in the Churchof Ewelme, in Oxfordshire, (Vide p. 499, antea).Died 20th May 1475.

Barbara, Empress of Germany, Consort of Si-gismond, Emperor of Germany, K.G. anddaughter of Hermannus, Count of Cilley in Crain.Orders were given for preparing Robes for her in1439, but they were countermanded on account of arumour of the Emperor’s death ; and it is probablethat Robes had been issued to her in many pre-vious years.

Jaquette, Duchess of Bedford, daughter of Peter,Count of St. Paul, and wife of John Duke ofBedford, K.G. She afterwards married RichardWydville, Earl Ryvers, and was by him mother ofQueen Elizabeth, Consort of King Edward IV.Received Robes as “ Duchess of Bedford” in 1434or 1435.
