This conspiracy, in some of its inferior branches, extendedeven to the Maltese galleys *] and it had been planned thaton the same day, the festival of St. Peter and St. Paul, theircrews should revolt, and the slaves attending on the knightsmurder their masters. Fortunately, however, an advice-boatarrived in time to acquaint the general with the plot, who tookproper measures to prevent its execution, and to preserve themost perfect tranquillity on board his galleys.
* These were commanded by the bailiff de Maraselly, a Florentine, who at that timewas cruising on the flat shores of the Roman coast.
