L’Isle Adam was in France at thetime of his election, lie paid thegreatest attention to supplyingRhodes with provisions, ammunition,&e., the Turks threatening to besiegethat place. He vainly imploredassistance from different Christianprinces. Pope Adrian VI. gave himnothing but prayers and blessings.The Turks appeared before Rhodeson the 26th of June : and it is atthis period I commence my Historyof the Knights of St. John of Jeru-salem, which I continue to the timewhen the English took possession ofMalta.
