Unguentuji Nitkatis Hydrargyris Mitius. E. Milder Ointmentof Nitrate of Mercury. Take three times the quantity of the lardand the oil as that directed in the preceding. It is used chiefly forthe eyes, and is not so hard as the other: Jj of pitch, or of sugar oflead water, to 5J of the ointment is a good addition for piles, prurigopudendi et recti, &c.

Unguentuji Hydrargyri Nitrico-Oxidi. L. D. U/ig. oxidi hy-drarg. rubri. E. Ung. subnitrat. hydrarg. O. Ointment of NitricOxide of Mercury. Take gj of nitric oxide of mercury, gij of whitewax, Jvj of prepared lard; to the wax and lard melted together addthe nitric oxide of mercury reduced to a very subtile powder, andmix. The nitric oxide ought to be very finely pulverized.Medicinally it is an excellent stimulant for foul and atonic ulcers, andchronic inflammation of the eyelids. It is best applied on a bit oflint to ulcers, covering this with a dressing of spermaceti ointment.When mixed with any sort of resinous ointment, the red oxide ofmercury is converted into the black oxide. One drachm of subcar-bonate of iron to 5J of this ointment is a good addition.

Unguentuji Hydrargyri Oxyjiuriatis. Corrosive Sublimate Oint-ment. Take gr. x of oxymuriate of mercury very finely levigated,the yolk of one egg, 3 j of prepared lard. First triturate the subli-mate with the yolk of egg, and then incorporate with the lard. Itis used in the same cases as the preceding.

Unguentuji Hydrargyri Pr^cipitati Ai.bi. L. Take 5j of whiteprecipitated mercury, Jjss of prepared lard ; melt the lard over aslow fire, add the mercury, and mix. It is a good itch-ointment,and is useful for porrigo and herpes.

Unguentuji Hydrargyri Ph^cipitati per Calce. Take ^j of theprecipitate which falls on mixing the oxymuriate of mercury withlime water, 5j of ointment of elder-flowers, or of prepared lard ;mix, and apply to phagedenic and strumous ulcers, and cutaneousaffections.

Unguentuji Hydrargyri Proto-iodureti. New. Take 3j of theproto-ioduret of mercury, Jjss of prepared lard, and make an oint-ment for strumo-syphilitic ulcers. The deuto-ioduret makes a stillmore active ointment. A very small quantity of these ointments isapplied upon a bit of lint.

Unguentuji Hydrargyri Prussiatis. Ointment of Prussiate, orHydrocyanate of Mercury. Take 5\j ss °f hydrosublimed mercury,11\xx of hydrocyanic acid, 5j of spermaceti ointment; mix carefullyin a glass mortar. If the acid be of a proper strength it will makethe mercury of a blue colour. It is good for porrigo, herpes, andirritable syphilitic ulcers.
